Thallus epiphyllous, subcuticular, 10–20 (–40) mm wide, 8–15 µm thick, lobate, the lobes thin, elongate, frequently radiating, occasionally confluent, dark brownish grey, ±smooth, dull to slightly glossy, bordered by a thin black line; spaces between lobes large; photobiont Cephaleuros; prothallus not apparent. Perithecia superficial, prominent, verrucose to ±conical, covered to the apex by a layer of thallus, 0.35–0.70 mm diam., greyish black. Perithecial apex ±rounded. Involucrellum black, carbonaceous, extending to exciple base level, 30–45 µm thick. Exciple hyaline to brown, 15–20 µm thick. Centrum 0.25–0.45 mm diam. Paraphyses simple. Asci narrowly obclavate, 70–100 × 6–12 µm. Ascospores 1-septate, fusiform, biseriate in the ascus, constricted at the septum, 14–25 × 3–5 µm; cells not separating. Conidiomata: 1) semi-immersed, hemispherical to verrucose, greyish black, 0.25–0.32 mm diam., containing simple bacilliform macroconidia 9–12 × 2–3 µm; 2) similar, but 0.07–0.15 mm diam., containing simple fusiform microconidia 4–6 × 1–2 µm. | ||
Occurs on the leaves of rainforest trees and shrubs north-eastern Qld; pantropical. | ||
